4th International Cartoon Competition "Eurasia", Russia


REGULATIONS 

I. General provisions

1. These Regulations govern the procedure for holding the IV International Cartoon Competition "Eurasia" (hereinafter referred to as the Contest).

2. Founders of the Contest:

• Pavlov Anatoly Ivanovich, member of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Chairman of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the All-Russian Council of Local Self-Government

• Yekaterinburg Museum of Caricature.

3. The Contest is held with the support of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly and the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Region (to be agreed).

4. Theme of the Contest: "Hello, Neighbor!"

Today, when the peoples of the world are faced with the task of agreeing on common basic values, the International Caricature Contest on the theme "Hello Neighbor!" will become a universal negotiating platform, since a “drawn” thought does not require translation.

The Contest will clearly demonstrate that people in different countries are worried about the same problems.

And humor in graphic works is both an excellent translator and a cure for many diseases, including social and political ones.

5. The aim of the Contest: to promote the development of good-neighborly relations between the peoples of the Eurasian continent and the whole world.

6. Objectives of the Contest:

• promoting the development of intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding and friendship through the art of caricature;

• attracting the attention of graphic artists from different countries of the world to common social problems;

• assistance to the development of the cultural space of modern Eurasia

 

II. Organizational support for the Contest

1. The Contest is carried out by the Organizing Committee formed by the founders.

2. The exclusive competence of the Organizing Committee includes:

• accepting applications for participation in the Contest;

• formation of the composition of the competitive jury;

• organization and conduct of the final award ceremony for the laureates of the Contest.

3. Contest jury is formed from authoritative figures in the professional sphere in order to creatively evaluate the works submitted for the Contest.

4. Members of the jury have the right to participate in the Contest without claiming prizes.

 

III. Conditions for holding the Contest 

1. Contest works are accepted from November 15, 2021 to February 1, 2022.

The works must arrive in Ekaterinburg no later than February 1, 2022 (by postmark).

2. Authors over the age of 18 are allowed to participate in the Contest.

3. Each author may submit for participation in the Contest no more than 5 (five) works.

4. Works that have received prizes in other Contests are not accepted for participation.

5. Summing up the results of the Contest and the opening of the exhibition of the best works will be timed to coincide with the International Day of Laughter on April 1, 2022.

6. Contest works are sent to the address:

On the envelope it is necessary to indicate: "For the Cartoon Competition".

7. Requirements for works:

• Format: A4 (210 x 297 mm) or A3 (297 x 420 mm)

• Works must be hand made original. Photocopies, prints are not considered.

Works convicted of plagiarism do not participate in the competition.

• Technique is free; works can be either black and white or color.

• Works should not contain text.

• Full name of the author, time of creation, return address, e-mail are to be indicated on the back.

• Works must be accompanied by a completed application form for the participant of the Contest

• Works must be carefully packed. The organizers of the Contest are not responsible for damage during shipment.

8. The works sent to the Contest are not returned and remain at the disposal of the founders of the Contest.

9. Prizes of the Contest:

• 1st place: € 1,500

• 2nd place: € 1000

• 3rd place: € 500

• Special Prize: € 500

• Honorable mention

10. Authors of works participating in the final exhibition receive a certificate of the participants in the Contest and a printed copy of the catalog.

11. The founders of the Contest reserve the right to further use the Contest works for exhibition and information purposes.

Quiénes le temen al humor y la caricatura periodística? Por Pedro Molina (Nicarágua)

(*Palabras de agradecimiento al recibir el Reconocimiento a la Excelencia en el Premio Gabo 2021, otorgado por la Fundación Gabo (Fundación Gabriel García Márquez para el nuevo periodismo Iberoamericano)

 

Espero que premios de este calibre contribuyan a superar el mito que quienes trabajamos con el humor y la caricatura, no merecemos ser tomados en serio

 

El día en que lo iban a premiar el caricaturista se levantó como cualquier otro día en los últimos 25 años de su vida, buscando la idea para la pieza de mañana.

Esa caricatura que sin ser quizás la más perfecta será siempre la más importante porque es la que nos recuerda que seguimos acá, para criticar lo criticable, conectar con la gente, hacer la crónica de nuestro camino juntos, y animarnos a mantener la esperanza en un mañana luminoso, a pesar de lo oscuro que pueda ser nuestro presente.

Gracias a Dios, a mi familia heredada y a la que he ido formando a lo largo de mi vida personal y profesional, por su compañía, su confianza y sus críticas.

Agradezco al consejo rector de la Fundación Gabo por distinguirme con este reconocimiento con el que nunca habría soñado el niño que en los ochenta devoraba las secciones y suplementos de humor y caricatura de cuánto diario cayera en sus manos.

Culpo a gente como Quino, a Fontanarrosa, a Róger, mi paisano y a los cientos de colegas de quienes me he nutrido después, de haberme seducido con su mordacidad para unirme a las filas de una profesión, que, si bien es muchas veces mal comprendida o ninguneada, ha sido y es una parte vital del panorama informativo, de análisis, denuncia y debate en los medios de comunicación.

Espero que premios de este calibre contribuyan a superar ese mito de que quienes trabajamos con el humor, no merecemos ser tomados muy en serio. Y es que, son irónicamente las fortalezas de este medio, es decir, el humor y su popularidad, lo que a veces causa irritación en los rostros graves de aquellos que creen que tomarse las cosas en serio significa hablar siempre con lenguaje rebuscado y cara de constipado. Me refiero a esa gente que cree que si pierde la solemnidad, perderá el respeto, la influencia o el temor que pueda imponer sobre el resto.

Puede decirse que estos personajes menosprecian el humor o no lo entienden, pero no pocas veces resulta que lo que le tienen es pavor porque el humor trabaja como arrancagrasa sobre la solemnidad dejando al desnudo las imperfecciones o carencias de sus reputables funciones como Gobierno, jerarquía, directiva o cualquier otro pedestal del que no quieran bajarse.

Espero que este premio ayude a reafirmar el lugar que la caricatura periodística puede tener dentro de este, “el mejor oficio del mundo” en sus diversas presentaciones y plataformas.

Agradezco también a CONFIDENCAL, donde publico actualmente, a Carlos Fernando Chamorro y el resto del equipo que lucha por mantener ese espacio de periodismo independiente en el actual contexto de censura y represión que vive nuestra Nicaragua.

La dictadura ha allanado dos veces nuestras instalaciones, los programas que producimos no pueden transmitirse abiertamente en las televisoras y radios del país, buena parte del equipo hemos tenido que salir al exilio para seguir haciendo nuestro trabajo, pero aun así… Seguimos día a día informando y compartiendo con la gente este difícil camino que esperamos nos lleve a la justicia, la libertad y la democracia que el pueblo de Nicaragua anhela.

Gracias pues a todo el periodismo independiente, veteranos y novatos de Nicaragua y otros países que resisten, insisten y persisten bajo ambientes de acoso y represión, porque con su ejemplo y compañía me inspiran diariamente.

Gracias también porsupuestísimo a la gente que me premia con su atención, en especial a mi gente de Nicaragua: no soy más ni menos que ustedes, soy un nica más ¡y no podría ser algo mejor!

Y ahora con su permiso, que la caricatura de mañana no se va a hacer sola.


1st International Exhibition of Sports Humor in Hangzhou 2022


The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou China 2022, Therefore, The First international Exhibition of Sports Humor will also be held in Binjiang, Hangzhou. 

 

Theme: Anything about sports but only with humor. 

Contribution Requirements:

Preliminary assessment: All the contributions must be sent as electronic images (jpg.png.tif) by e-mail to: taosart@taosart.cn And with the capacity of 2M and resolution of 300dpi.

Name of the files: Full name (according to ID card of passport), name of the work.

The title of the e-mail should mention 2020(Binjiang Hangzhou) The First International Exhibition of Sports Humor. And the full name, nationality, detailed contact number, mail address, zip code and self-instruction should also be involved in the email.  

Re-evaluation: The organizing committee will conduct the review base on the Preliminary assessment.

After the review,committee will ask the authors whose works are selected to mail the works.

Works requirements: The works must be original and created or published within recent years. 

Works delivery:  Unlimited numbers of works are allowed but would be selected at most 3 of them.

Deadline of Contributing: 31st Dec.2021 

Authors’treatment: The selected works will be published as an album by Zhejiang Education Press and be sent to the authors with a certificate.

30 from all the works will be selected by the organizing committee as  Excellent Works and the authors will receive RMB2000/piece(pre-tax).

Rights of the organizer:  Have the rights to all the participating works of exhibition, research, photography, video, publishing and promotion.

The organizers do not undertake works copyright disputes caused by the legal responsibility.

The authors of exhibitors to send works, shall be deemed to have confirmed and abide by all provisions of filling notice.
