VI Biennial of Humour LOG Penela Portugal 2018 (Death and Humour – The cicle of Life or Traditions of death in your culture) (black and white drawings) (until 10th June 2018)

1 - Theme:
a) "The Life Cycle" - we invite artists from around the
world to meditate about the existence, the way each culture faces life and
death and which symbols and rituals they use to overcome the terror of the
unknown after death. Is death just a meditation of life, or an anecdote that frightens
the daily life of eternity? We do not want here to experience death but instead
to honor life with humor and optimism. This year the world recalls the
centenary of the Armistice of the Great War of 1914/18, the mother of all the
other wars that keeps developing during the 20th century and which
is still present nowadays with the said terrorism of fundamentalists.. How can
we praise the perenniality of the spirit, instead of cultivating a society that
finances the extermination of humanity and of the mother earth?
b) Caricatures of Leonor d'Oliveira Guimarães (daughter in law of Luiz
d’Oliveira Guimarães) who was the promoter of this Biennial.
2 - Open to the participation
of all graphic artists with humor, professional or amateur.
3 - Deadline: 10th
of June 2018. They should be sent to humorgrafe.oms@gmail.com, humorgrafe@hotmail.com
or humorgrafe_oms@yahoo.com (If you do not receive confirmation receipt please
resend new email).
4 - Each artist can send via
e-mail in digital format (JPEG 300 dpis A4) up to 4 works in monochromatic (one color with all its nuances - not
accepted drawings with 2, 3 or 4 colors) (is compulsory that one should be on this subject, and the others can be
portraits-caricatures of cartoonists - self-caricature or any of your country masters), open to all
techniques and styles as caricature, cartoon, humor design, strip, bd board
(story in a single board) ... which must be accompanied with information of
name, date of birth, address and e-mail.
5 - Entries will be judged by
a jury consisting of: representatives of the Municipality of Penela;
representative of Junta de Freguesia do Espinhal; representative of the family
Oliveira Guimarães; the Artistic Director of the Bienal; representantive of
Fundação Oliveira Guimarães; a representative of the sponsors, a local media
representative and two guest cartoonists, and will award the following prizes:
* 1st Prize VI BHLOG- 2018 (€
1,800)
* 2nd Prize of VI BHLOG- 2018
(€ 1,300)
* 3rd Prize of VI BHLOG- 2018
(€ 800)
* Caricature Prize of the VI
BHLOG-2018 (€ 1,000)
The jury, at its discretion,
may grant "Special Awards" (António d’Oliveira Guimarães,
Municipality of Penela. Junta de Freguesia do Espinhal and Humorgrafe), an
honorific title, with a trophy.
6 - The jury grants the right
to make a selection of the best works to exhibit in the space and catalog
edition (which will be sent to all artists with works reproduced).
7 - The Organization shall
inform all artists, by email, if they were selected for the exhibition and
catalog, and also the winning artists. The works awarded, are automatically acquired
by the Organization. The originals of the winning entries must be submitted to
the Organization (the original work made by computer is a high quality print in
A4, with hand signature and numbered 1/1), because without such delivery, the
monetary prize will not be unlocked.
8 - Reproduction rights are
owned by the Organization, to promote this event, and eventually will be
discussed with the authors in the case of other uses.

10 - The VI Biennial of Humor
Luíz d'Oliveira Guimarães – Espinhal / Penela 2018 takes place from 1 to 21
September in the Cultural Center of Espinhal, but the woks can also be
exhibited in other locations to be designated.
"Le cycle de
vie" - nous invitons des artistes du monde entier à philosopher sur
l'existence, chaque culture faisant face à la vie et à la mort, ce que les
symbologies rituelles font pour surmonter la terreur à l'inconnu au-delà. La
mort n'est-elle qu'une méditation de la vie, ou une anecdote qui craint la vie
quotidienne de l'éternité? Nous ne voulons pas vivre ici dans la mort, mais
honorer la vie avec humour et optimisme dans des moments comme celui de 2018 où
le centenaire de l'Armistice de la Grande Guerre de 1914/18 est rappelé, la
mère de toutes les autres guerres que pendant le siècle. XX et qu'aujourd'hui à
travers le dit terrorisme des intégristes, il continue à être présent dans la
société contemporaine. Comment pouvons-nous louer la pérennité de l'esprit, au
lieu de cultiver une société qui finance la mort de l'humanité et de la
planète?

приглашаем художников со всего мира философствовать о существовании, поскольку
каждая культура сталкивается с жизнью и смертью, какие ритуальные символики
делают, чтобы преодолеть террор до неизвестного за его пределами. Является ли
смерть просто медитацией жизни или анекдотом, который боится повседневной жизни
вечности? Мы не хотим жить здесь в смерти, но уважать жизнь с юмором и
оптимизмом в такие моменты, как в 2018 году, когда вспоминается столетие
перемирия Великой войны 1914/18 года, мать всех других войн что в течение
столетия. XX и что сегодня через указанный терроризм фундаменталистов он
продолжает присутствовать в современном обществе. Как мы можем хвалить
постоянство духа, вместо того, чтобы культивировать общество, которое
финансирует смерть человечества и планеты?

يتم فيها استدعاء الذكرى المئوية لهدنة الحرب العظمى في 1914/18 ، وهي أم جميع
الحروب الأخرى هذا خلال القرن. XX ، واليوم من خلال الإرهاب الأصولي
المذكور ، لا تزال موجودة في المجتمع المعاصر. كيف يمكننا أن نثني على تعمد
الروح ، بدلاً من أن نزرع مجتمعاً يمول موت البشرية وكوكب الأرض؟

The Life Cycle - HUMOR IS LIFE
AND TRANSFORMATION

The dream of any
comedian, or comedian, is for someone to die of laughter with their speeches.
In reality there is no better death than the one with the smile in the soul,
with the laughter in the heart, detoxifying the bitterness, the aging of the
age and the daily life, but only the term "death" scares, is a taboo
subject.
What is
"death" for each of us? If we do not talk about her, we never face
her and never smile at her, frontally, irreverently, unconcernedly, how we
should live with our daily lives. Do you
believe in Life after Childbirth?
A simple breath
separates the concepts of death and life, when the unknown brings them together
in a line of transmutation. Millennial philosophy has long taught us that
nothing dies, everything is transformed into different breaths of living and
invigorating energy. What separates one state from another is only fear. In the
first, this claustrophobic feeling ceases to exist and in the second it
conditions us.
There is no better
way to deal with fears, worries and oppressions than with humor, not only
because it gives them a new light, but also because it forces us to face
reality without the shadows of customs and the burkas of castrating education.
To smile, to laugh, to think with humorous philosophy there are no fears but
irreverence and security, there is no oppression but daring and freedom.
Is there life? Is
there death? What surpasses us in everyday life? The worry of the future, the
longing for the past and the non-existence of the present, dominated by those
castrating feelings. Why so much fear of this carnal death, if everything is
but a grotesque illusion, macabre imposed by apocalyptic and pessimistic
educations?
Comely those who
say Atheists, thank God, end up being the most spiritualists because they
BELIEVE that after the terrestrial passage integrate the NADA, from the EU, to
the US NO, that is, they are utopians who do not want to subject themselves to
the passages of growth , integrating immediately the ABSOLUTE NOTHING, the
divine absolute, the NOT BEING to BE in the primordial energy.
It is in the smile
that we find life, the resurrection of humor as the true essence of daily life
in which degradation, perenniality and death become energy invigorating day to
day, without fears, without fears because there is no greater sense of freedom
that a good laugh, to face the mirror and accept ourselves as we are, in this
eternal energy in optimism.
Death turns out to be
the caricature of life, that grotesque reflection that shows us how we are all
the same, because in this state there are neither rich nor poor, there are no
races or religions, living in equality and simplicity of humor.
Every day we
disappear from sight, touch, loved ones, as happened recently with one of the
great souls of this Bienal, Leonor de Oliveira Guimarães however, she remains
present in another dimension, as has happened with António Oliveira Guimarães,
who was also one of the promoters, without being able to physically see the
concretion of the Biennial, not forgetting to mention the presence of the
mentor of all these irreverences, our Luíz.
It is this universe
of dimensions, thoughts, concepts, parallel experiences that we want to
revalidate here when using this theme as the motto of the VI International
Biennial of Humor. As long as we believe in values, in the spirit that drives
creation, it does not die, it subsists not only in hope but in the realization
of a smile, of complicity. The said death does not frighten us, it only
encourages us to laugh at the present and to use the philosophy of the spirit
as the breath of life, of resurrection in daily life.
How does every
artist, every culture, every people laugh with death and with life? Only the
artists can answer us and that is what we challenge them - speak to us from
your point of view and from your culture of death as the triumph of life, of
life as something more important than the concept of death. The important thing
is not to know if there is postmortem life, but if there is life despite the
obsession with death.
There is no
disrespect to laugh with "death", rather a tribute to life, which is
why in the immediate after the physical disappearance, we remember more of the
good memories than the bad, perhaps the only moment in which the tragedy is
overcome by optimism of memory .
Some say it's black
humor, but how can it be black if everyone who has had postmortem experiences
speaks of light? Do we cry for those who leave or for those who stay? Is not
the comedy about our daily life any more black, which is why humor is given to
give us the light and strength to overcome it? It is easier to live in tragedy
because it gives more work to be constantly cheerful, optimistic and
philosophizing with spirit.

Guimarães was an irony of life that preferred to ignore death until the 98 years,
never writing on this subject. Out of fear or out of wisdom? In reality, no one
escapes it because we all have to face it in the morphological transformation
of matter since we were born and if some ignore it, others cultivate it, as is
the case of Mexican culture. We all become lifelong and if we have to be, at
least it is with humor.
We invite artists from around the world to meditate about the
