ndignation! Attack on freedom in Ramallah! Por António Santos
Indignação! Ataque à liberdade em Ramallah!
Em novembro de 2021 fui convidado pelo «Yasser
Arafat Museum Ramallah & Al-bireh», - Palestina, para participar com um
trabalho sobre Yasser Arafat. A inauguração da exposição decorreu online no
passado domingo (23 de janeiro) com a presença do Primeiro Ministro
Palestiniano, Sr. Muhammad Shtayyeh entre outras destacadas individualidades.
Aparentemente tudo se passou dentro de uma normal inauguração. Mas a cegueira
visual, a falta de civismo, o desrespeito pela cultura e pela liberdade de
expressão falaram mais alto. Uma multidão do grupo Fatah entendeu mal a minha
caricatura e de outros artistas participantes, tirando-as da galeria para o
lixo. A escandalosa exposição estava programada para permanecer aberta ao
público até junho de 2022, mas foi cancelada.

In November 2021 I was invited by the «Yasser
Arafat Museum
Ramallah & Al-bireh», - Palestine, to
participate with a work on Yasser Arafat. The opening of the exhibition took
place online last Sunday (23 January) with the presence of the Palestinian
Prime Minister, Mr. Muhammad Shtayyeh, among other distinguished individuals. Apparently,
everything happened within a normal opening. But visual blindness, lack of
civility, disrespect for culture, and freedom of expression spoke louder. A
Fatah crowd misunderstood my caricature and that of other participating
artists, taking them out of the gallery into the trash. The scandalous
exhibition was scheduled to remain open to the public until June 2022 but was
canceled.
We cannot remain silent! For freedom, for
culture!
